Of the many things cut from the revised American stimulus package…
• $75 million from Smithsonian (original bill $150 million)
• $200 million from Environmental Protection Agency Superfund (original bill $800 million)
• $100 million from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (original bill $427 million)
• $65 million for watershed rehabilitation
• $50 million for aquaculture
• $2 billion for broadband
• $50 million for NASA
• $50 million for aeronautics
• $200 million for National Science Foundation
• $100 million for science
• $25 million for Fish and Wildlife
• $3.5 billion for higher education construction
Well, it was a nice dream while it lasted.
I am glad the cuts were made. However, I would like to know specifically what Congressional idiot proposed each piece of “bacon”.
I would like to know what was exchanged for what. For example, were tax cuts exchanged for science? Let’s see the whole reality.
I think it’s funny that funding for my future career got cut (watershed restoration/rehabilitation). It’s just odd to hear congress say that it won’t make jobs, when it is in reality cutting my potential job. And I challenge any member of congress to go a week without clean water.
People should stop calling this bill “an economic stimulus package”. It is nothing more than “a pork barrel package”. Very little if anything will go to actually help the economy.
So i consistently hear about how everything in this stimulus package is pork barreling. As CB said, the reduction for the watershed restoration directly effects his/her future employment. Just because something seems stupid to you, does not mean it is not valid.
Broadband….hmm. Everyone loves to have their internet. Laying down millions of miles of line (jobs), IT support (jobs), billing (jobs), increase in e-commerce sales (+ econonmy), increase in online advertise from influx of users (+ economy). Please tell me how this is “bacon”.
• $3.5 billion for higher education construction
Again, this is mind boggling. How can we expect a better and brighter America if we do not invest in it?
With bi-partisan support like this, it is no wonder why Obama will fail. Thank you American leaders for turning the American Dream into the American Nightmare.
